I study the spectra of high-redshift galaxies and investigate their physical properties and their evolution. I am particularly interested in understanding the formation and growth of the first massive quiescent systems. My research is based on data that I and others have obtained using large telescopes, such as Keck in Hawaii, LBT in Arizona, and VLT in Chile. Before coming to the CfA I was a postdoc at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics (MPE) near Munich (Germany), and before that I was a graduate student at Caltech in Pasadena (California), where I finished my PhD in 2015.
