About
I am the Director of the SED and F.W. Wright Senior Lecturer in Astronomy. I earned my B.S. in Physics from MIT and an Ed.M and Ed.D. from Harvard. I participate as a faculty member in Harvard's interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Education program. I co-authored the first integrated computer and laboratory introductory calculus course while an undergraduate and have taught middle school mathematics, science, and engineering, undergraduate astronomy, and graduate teaching courses. I have founded three companies and hold five patents. I created Apple's first product training course. I am interested in student misconceptions and how they change with instruction, what impacts the STEM career interest of pre-college students, and the professional development of science teachers. I have won the JRST Award, the AIP's Computers in Physics Prize, the AAS Education Prize, and the AAPT Millikan Medal. Curricula and materials developed by me are used by an estimated fifteen million students every year.
