  • Photograph taken by the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) immediately after its CCD cameras cooled on March 30, 2010.In this representative-color image, red shows emission from ionized helium (He II) at a temperature of 140,000 Fahrenheit (80,000 Kelvin), while green shows ionized iron (Fe IX) at a temperature of 1,800,000 F (1,000,000K). The extent of the He II loop is equivalent to 30 Earth diameters.
