Permanent Track Positions

The  Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian. Opportunities listed below are currently open. Please apply separately for each position following the Application Procedure described in the posting.

Permanent Track Research Astronomer

The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) invites applications from highly qualified individuals for at least two permanent-track research astronomer openings, with potentially as many as four openings depending on funding availability and candidate qualifications. These positions are analogous to a tenure-track assistant professorship. To leverage next-generation telescopes and research opportunities, the SAO priority areas for hiring this year are in time-domain astronomy, extrasolar planets, Earth observing, and instrumentation development for new ground and space facilities. However, outstanding candidates in all fields of astronomy and astrophysics will be considered. Junior and mid-career scientists with an established track record of major scientific achievement are encouraged to apply here:  https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/28549

Assistant Professor of Astronomy

The Department of Astronomy seeks to appoint a tenure-track professor in any subfield of Astronomy and Astrophysics. The appointment is expected to begin in July 2025. The person hired will join the Department of Astronomy and the Harvard College Observatory as part of the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian. The tenure-track professor will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, for conducting a vibrant and impactful research program, for the advising and mentorship of junior scientists, and for contributing broadly to the scientific atmosphere and inclusive climate of our department and the CfA.  For additional information, please visit here: https://academicpositions.harvard.edu/postings/14081
