Alex Dalgarno Receives 2013 Franklin Institute Medal in Physics

Alex Dalgarno has been selected to receive the 2013 Franklin Institute Medal in Physics. Since 1824, the Franklin Institute has honored the greatest men and women of science, engineering, and technology. The Franklin Institute Awards are among the oldest and most prestigious comprehensive science awards in the world.

The citation will read:

"For his many fundamental contributions to the development of the field of molecular astrophysics, which led to a better understanding of interstellar space, including the giant molecular clouds that are the birthplaces of stars and planets."

The Franklin Medal will be presented at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia on Thursday, April 25, 2013.

Dalgarno will also attend a symposium in his honor at the University of Delaware on Wednesday, April 24. More information about the "Molecules in Space" symposium, which is open to the public, has been posted online.
