Gabrelle Saurage
About
Gabrelle Saurage is the Director of the Fred Lawrence Whipple Observatory in Arizona. She is a senior mission operations manager with over 20 years of experience in observational astronomy. Her experience includes several ground-based observatories, such as the Hobby-Eberly Telescope at McDonald Observatory, the W. M. Keck Observatory, and Apache Point Observatory, as well as an airborne observatory, NASA’s Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). She helped develop the payload operations team for NASA's Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP) at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado. She has also managed a global satellite-tracking telescope network and supported Department of Defense (DOD) projects. With a foundation in physics and three master’s degrees, including one in Space Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins, she brings an agile approach to operations team management, implementing a new, invigorating, public-engaging vision for the future of FLWO.
